The Rodenbeck windmill was built in 1821 as an estate mill of the Rodenbeck farm. The relatively marshy subsoil required that the foundation be carefully prepared. Thus, the saying has survived after more oak wood was processed in the subsoil than in the mill itself.
This windmill represents a special feature just by its stately strongly conical tower with its four floors. Other special features are the gallery with its twenty-four corners and the large hood. The hood is the largest windmill hood in the district and is the only one with a circumferential walkway. The blades are set into the wind by means of a pulling wheel.
The mill got an additional drive early, around 1900. Here, too, there is something special: The electric drive drives the large star wheel in the head via a transmission and from there the grinding gears. The wind drive was shut down in 1945 and the mill was only operated for its own needs until 1954. The mill equipment still exists and could be made to work again. When visiting, one should plan a guided tour through the old town of Minden.
