It is considered certain that there was already a mill on this site in the 14th century. The postmill Wehe dates back to before 1650, making it the oldest windmill in the district. At that time, the mill was owned by the Rahden church. In 1732, the Prussian state became the owner. At that time, the solidly built royal mills were of a higher technical standard and the state sold the trestle windmill again in 1771. It became private property and changed hands frequently in the following years. Technical changes were introduced at the end of the 19th century. A diesel engine was purchased to power the mill and a circular saw when there was no wind. The drive was later replaced by a more powerful "Baumi" drive.
Over the years, the mill became increasingly dilapidated and consideration was given to restoring it to its pre-1700 condition. in 1982, the mill was dismantled and rebuilt with the old grist mill. In 1991, the Minden-Lübbecke Mill Association bought the windmill and turned it into a "club mill". Today, the mill has been restored to its original state. in 1994, a bakehouse was built to cater for the many visitors on milling and baking days with flat cakes and lard breads. If you want to enjoy the popular raisin bread and spelt waffles with cherries and whipped cream, you should make your way to Wehe in good time on these days.
