The Dutchman's windmill, built in 1883, is picturesquely situated on a hill above Schnathorst, a district of the municipality of Hüllhorst. Since its restoration, the windmill once again has wind-running sail wings and a functioning wind rose. The mill business was completely discontinued in 1970. In 1987, the mill was included in the mill preservation program.
The tower was restored to its original height, the blades now drive a solid tubular steel shaft, and the wind rose once again functions as it did in the old days. Visitors can enjoy plate cake and coffee in the newly created guest room. Since the completion of the restoration in 1993, Hüllhorst is the only municipality in the district to once again have all types of natural power mills, i.e. a horse mill, a water mill and a windmill.
With this variety, a day trip to Hüllhorst is a perfect opportunity. During a visit to the horse mill, the Struckhof windmill and the Husen watermill in the Nachtigallental, mill lovers can experience mill technology and mill history in a small area in a scenic setting.
