WINDMÜHLE HEIMSEN

Heimsen on the Weser is an old mill site. The dutch windmill of 1873 with its strongly conical solid tower stands on an earth wall with passage. Since the restoration it is again equipped with two louvers as well as two sail wings and a wind rose. According to the mill survey of 1910, there was a windmill and a steam mill here. This must be seen as a relatively early modernization of the mill operation. However, the steam drive was replaced by an electric motor already after the First World War. In 1947, the grain silo that still exists today was installed. The silo was primarily used to store the mill's own grain. The change of the mill operation from contract milling to commercial milling was already evident at this time. Until 1945, the windmill was operated with only two blades.

From 1956 until the mill ceased to operate, only motor power was used. In recent years, the surroundings of the Heimsen windmill have undergone significant changes. The conversion of a barn located on the mill site on the "Bössel" into a mill club pub was tackled by the members of the "Heimsen Windmill Interest Group". The result is impressive: a solid brick building with all modern comforts. The new house not only makes it possible to entertain guests on the popular milling and baking days on a larger scale. With its rustic-style hall and cozy ambience, the millers house invites guests to stay longer. For mill days, meetings, weddings and private celebrations of any kind, there is room for up to 120 people. If necessary, the terrace can be extended with a tent annex. The kitchen facilities are available for all events. Special theme nights are particularly popular here.

For example, there was a "Western Evening", "Sailor's Evening", "Homeland Evening", an "Oktoberfest" and theme parties such as the "Spanish Night", the "Irish Night" and the "French Night", all of which were successful events organized by the Heimsen windmill interest group. During these events the windmill can be illuminated individually. These colored light shows on the clean white mill tower give the whole area a romantic flair. During the "Night of the Illuminated Mills", a hitherto unique event in August 2006, most of the mills on the Westphalian Mill Road were illuminated. With its illuminated wings, the Heimsen windmill was a real beauty and a special eye-catcher.
