MINDEN-LÜBBECKE

Welcome to the Bockwindmühle

We would like to offer you an insight into the history and function of the various buildings and facilities at eight locations that are always accessible. This is particularly important if you visit us outside of our events. The Heimatverein Wehe has been committed to the preservation of this windmill since 1979. We are members of the mill association for the Minden-Lübbecke district, which looks after over 40 restored mills. Our work is voluntary and unpaid and is aimed at presenting the Bockwindmühle cultural monument in a professional manner and managing the necessary ongoing tasks. We are financed by the surpluses from grinding and baking days, which are then used for insurance, electricity and repairs. We do not charge admission. Information about our mill can be found at the information station of this monument.

Over the years, we have adapted existing buildings to suit our needs and those of our guests. In the "miller's house", former living quarters and stables have been converted into a kitchen, a sales room, toilets and a meeting room. A spacious tent between the bakery and a barbecue area offers additional seating for 80 people, protected from the weather. When the weather is nice, however, the seating areas "Unter den Linden" and the tables and benches set up for events in the paved outdoor area are particularly popular.

Welcome to the Bockwindmühle

We have gradually converted the barn into a cultural barn. We also built the half-timbered bakehouse. In 2022 and 2023, a small museum for rural crafts was added. The centerpiece is an old village smithy, which also allows horses to be shod with horseshoes from the hot forge. The rainwater is collected in a cistern and is used, among other things, for the sustainable irrigation of our snack hedge with delicious berries.

We also emphasize our respectful approach to nature: a small field is available for cooperation with the elementary school. An apiary, complemented by an educational trail, explains the importance of honey bees. We also hope that a pair of storks will use the nest we have provided again this year. Our "total work of art" should not only appeal to our guests, but also motivate us and offer additional opportunities for cultural groups to present themselves.
