SCHÖNEN WASSERMÜHLE BERGKIRCHEN
The mill building, constructed of quarry and brick, is more than 200 years old. The mill is also known by locals as "Schönen Mühle" after its owner Schöne. The mill equipment, which is still fully functional today, is driven by an overshot water wheel with a diameter of 3.8 meters. After many years of active milling operations, the last of which included a country store, business declined in the nineteen-sixties. However, commercial milling ceased only in 1998. "Schönen Mühle" is today a popular place for excursions. Visitors can still experience here how milling is done with water power, a functioning oil mill is also present.
