In 1556, a mill is first mentioned in documents at this place. At that time the water mill was part of the Hudenbeck estate. A medium-shaft water wheel with a diameter of 3.10 m and a width of 1 m drives the mill with the water of the floodplain. The two-story half-timbered house was built in 1888 after the mill had been severely damaged in a flood in 1885. The wheel, which had been undershot until then, was converted to an overshot drive during this reconstruction. The manor mill operated in this form until 1958.
The general "mill death" did not pass by without a trace - the equipment decayed, the wooden wheel was broken. In 1977, the town of Preußisch Oldendorf bought the estate and redesigned the grounds as a spa park. The water mill was to be made functional again. As was usual at the beginning of the mill restoration, components and equipment were procured from other mills. The cast-iron wheel, for example, came from Freudenberg in the Siegerland region, the mill equipment from Bünde.
The steel water wheel was now again driven by a medium-hammer because the floodplain could no longer be dammed as high as before. The reconstructed mill was put back into operation in 1983 with a grist and grinding train with classifier. As fate would have it, the mill was severely damaged by fire in 1985, exactly one hundred years after the water damage of 1885. A year later, after a speedy restoration, the mill could be opened to visitors again. On the first floor there is a small technical-historical exhibition with milling machines and pictures of all the mills that used to exist in Pr. Oldendorf.
Whether a spa guest or a mill lover, the visitor should not miss to take a look at the manor houses in Pr. Oldendorf. Pr. Oldendorf is the community with the most castles in the Mühlenkreis.
