The special feature of the Destel windmill is its original appearance. From the passing street, you have a beautiful view of the mill. With its slender tower and the wreath of tree growth, it resembles a graceful ballerina. Through this wreath of trees, the gallery is completely invisible during the summer months.
The windmill with its octagonal, boarded and shingled structure was built at the beginning of the 19th century. Its typical appearance with cap, stert and wind-going sail wings was completely preserved during the restoration. The history of the mill operation is only partial and little known. After an eventful history, the operation was finally stopped in 1960. In the following period, the inevitable decay began. The restoration of the mill was carried out by the dedicated Desteler mill society. The Destel windmill and the adjacent well-kept village square are a popular meeting place for families and clubs for events of all kinds.
